2010-05-04
Restrictions on organostannic compounds have been included into Annex XVII of REACH due to the publication, on April 1, 2010, of Regulation (EU) 276/2010.

In particular we would like to remind you that, since no changes have been introduced with respect to what we have already communicated, the restrictions will enter into force by July 1, 2010 on the basis of the following scheme

Compounds / New legislative reference / Field of application / Deadline / Restriction

Tri-substituted organostannic compounds (such as tributyltin-TBT and triphenyltin-TPT) / REACH Regulation, Annex XVII, Point 20.4 / Articles or part thereof / July 1, 2010 / 0.1% by weight of tin

Dibutyltin (DBT) compounds* / REACH Regulation, Annex XVII, Point 20.5 / Articles or part thereof and mixtures for supply to the general public / January 1, 2012 / 0.1% by weight of tin

Dioctyltin (DOT) compounds / REACH Regulation, Annex XVII, Point 20.6 / Textile articles intended to come in contact with the skin
- Gloves
- Footwear or part of footwear intended to come into contact with the skin
- Wall and floor coverings
- Female hygiene products
- Childcare articles
- Nappies / January 1, 2012 / 0.1% by weight of tin

Our chemical laboratory already performs test for organostannic compounds and has all the equipments to verify if your products comply with the new requirements

*The restriction on the use of dibutyltin (DBT) provides an exemption for certain products, for which the restriction will come into force on January 1, 2015
