| SVHC: with ACRYILAMIDE now 30 substances are into the list |
| 2010-04-20 |
On March 30, 2010 ACRYLAMIDE (EC 201-173-7, CAS 79-06-1) has
been added to the list of substances of very high concern (SVHC)
candidates for authorization, by raising the number of SVHC up to 30.
Acrylamide was identified as a possible SVHC in December 2009, but
its official inclusion in the list has been postponed on March 30, 2010
due to a request of the President of the General Court of European
Union.
On the basis of dossier published by ECHA, this substance is mainly
used for the production of polyacrylamide, in turn used in various
applications such as, for example, in waste water treatment, paper
processing and for other minor uses (additive for cosmetics, coatings
and paints, fabrics).
The presence of ACRYLAMIDE should therefore be monitored (through, for
example, verification of technical documentation, chemical analysis, etc.)
within articles (as well as substances / mixtures) supplied within the European
Community, in order to satisfy all requirements related to SVHC under
REACH Regulation.
