REACH: Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation
and restriction of CHemicals.
On 1 June 2007 REACH regulation has entered into force.
REACH involves all subjects that:
- produce/manufacture
- import
- use
- supply
not just chemical products (substances, preparations), but also products involved
in other kind of industrial activity such as, for example, cleaning products, varnishes,
cosmetics, candles, as well as articles like apparel, furniture, toys, child
care articles, electric equipments, etc.
Scope of the regulation is to evaluate all substances imported/manufactured/used
within the Community in order to ensure a high level of protection of human
health and the environment. This scope is reached also through the identification
of substances of very high concern (SVHC) since their use and presence within
products are subject to specific duties.
Indeed, starting from 28 October 2008, every company within the European Community
shall know if its products contain one or more SVHC candidate for authorisation.
The list of those SVHC is constantly under revision by the European Chemical
Agency, therefore companies need to stay up to date and get information on
new substances included within the list.
Services proposed can be differentiate on many levels and modulated in relation to the needs of
every client, including:
- company audit for the identification of the role of the company with respect to REACH and definition
of the action to be undertaken in order to reach the compliance with the regulation;
- compliance check of the documentation received from supplier;
- technical seminar for legal adjournment;
- determination of the presence of SVHC within products;
- determination of the presence of SVHC within materials used during production process;
- services of legal adjournment;
- services of adjournment on the inclusion of substances within the list of SVHC candidate for
authorisation and related duties.
Even companies that are not responsible for the first placing of products on the European market
(example: distributors, downstream users, etc) shall identify their role with respect to REACH
in order to be able to identify the actions that shall be undertaken to satisfy the requirements
of the regulation.
ICQ is at your disposal to support you toward REACH compliance.
